Chinese as a Second Language Program (CSL) offers a coherent sequence of Mandarin Chinese courses ranging from beginner to advanced levels. Our curriculum takes an integrated approach to basic linguistic skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Aided by digitalized technology, we emphasize pronunciation, tones, Chinese characters and the basic structure of Chinese grammar. Our courses introduce a variety of genres of contemporary Chinese with an emphasis on reading proficiency of authentic texts. By the end of the program, students are equipped with language proficiency to command the major skills of Chinese, to communicate freely with native speakers, and to be successful in taking the Hanyu Suiping Kaoshi (HSK) exam.
